Carol Chan, Comms8’s Founder & Managing Director, joins the WACL to aspire female talent in the industry
London, 2nd July 2021 - Carol Chan, Comms8’s Founder & Managing Director, joins the Women in Advertising and Communications Leadership (WACL). Under the by-nomination only policy, Carol’s contribution and achievement in the marketing and communication industry was recognised by WACL, an industry’s renowned professional organisation gathers the most senior female business leaders in the industry. Carol will be joining the members, include Jackie Stevenson – President of WACL and Founding Partner & Global CEO of The Brooklyn Brothers, Dame Carolyn McCall – Chief Executive of ITV, Alex Mahon – Chief Executive of BBC Channel 4, and Kathryn Jacob – CEO of Pearl & Dean to accelerate gender equality in the industry.
Leading the team to showcase the power of women in marketing industry
Prior to Comms8, Carol worked at top agencies in London and China, including Mediacom, ZenithOptimedia, PHD, where she helped clients like Coca-Cola, Ralph Lauren, Puma and Emirates, to successfully build and implement their communication strategy at local, regional, and global levels.
From working in the APAC region to Europe, Carol’s multicultural exposure to the industry made her realised the marketing industry in Hong Kong has a more gender balanced scene than in the UK, which makes her more dedicated to improving gender equality and career opportunities for every woman in the UK’s marketing and communication industry. Other than that, after establishing her own independent agency – Comms8, she noticed despite there are many female professionals at the industry, the industry’s culture is oblivious to the absence of female leadership in the workplace. She is determined to provide women employees opportunities and guidance to develop their personal growth and career prospects.
Within 7 years of starting the business, Carol and her team received clients’ recognitions and the Chair’s Award at the Drum Digital Advertising Awards 2020 as a strong proof in strategy planning. Having a team of talented women in Comms8 and seeing the underrepresentation of female leaders in the industry, Carol is determined to inspire the industry that women have the same capabilities and values as men in the workplace, and to reshape the poor gender diversity in the industry. Alongside with Comms8, she also volunteers in Pan Asian Women's Association (PAWA) as the Communication Advisor to support women empowerment and underprivileged girls’ education in Asia. All these achievements of Carol in the marketing industry and her dedication of promoting gender equality has brought her the opportunity to join WACL. On top of that, she founded the Institute of Chinese Marketing Practitioners (IOCMP), an organisation that advocates professional standard of marketing, advertising, and PR amongst Chinese marketing practitioners in Europe.
“It is my honour to be selected to join the Class of 2021 at WACL. Improving gender diversity in workplace is a core value and mission that every company should include to drive better efficiencies. I will endeavour to promote gender equality and women empowerment with WACL and be interested in partnering with companies and brands that share the same value. Also, as being one of the few Asian female leaders in the organisation, I am looking forward to contributing my multicultural insights in breaking stereotypes of female professionals in the marketing and communications industry,” said Carol Chan, Founder and Managing Director of Comms8.
